What To Do If There Is a Power Outage During Severe Weather

PSE&G is monitoring forecasts for high temperatures and potential severe weather that may bring heavy rain, strong winds, and isolated power outages over the coming days. Residents are encouraged to prepare in advance and stay informed.

Before a Storm

  • Charge cell phones, tablets, battery packs, and other electronic devices.
  • Keep flashlights, extra batteries, and a battery-powered radio readily available.
  • Know how to manually open your garage door if power is lost.
  • Review your family's emergency plan and identify alternative shelter locations if needed.

During a Power Outage

Report outages to PSE&G by:

  • Texting OUT to 47734 (4PSEG)
  • Calling 1-800-436-7734
  • Using the PSE&G mobile app
  • Visiting your PSE&G online account

Additional guidance:

  • Limit opening refrigerators and freezers to help preserve food.
  • Use flashlights instead of candles whenever possible.

Safety Reminders

  • Stay at least 30 feet away from downed power lines and assume all wires are energized.
  • Never drive through standing water where electrical hazards may be present.
  • Report downed wires immediately to PSE&G and call 911 if there is an immediate danger.
  • Never operate gasoline-powered generators inside garages, basements, or enclosed spaces due to carbon monoxide risks.
