Potential NJ TRANSIT Rail Service Suspension – Effective Friday, May 16
NJ TRANSIT is alerting customers to a possible complete suspension of all rail service beginning at 12:01 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025, due to a labor dispute involving the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLET). This includes service on Metro-North west of Hudson lines operated by NJ TRANSIT.
At this time, the BLET membership has voted down a tentative agreement with NJ TRANSIT leadership. If a new agreement is not reached, rail service across the state will be fully suspended.
NJ TRANSIT strongly urges the following:
Work from home if possible.
Limit use of NJ TRANSIT services to essential travel only.
Review and print the contingency plan, which includes details on bus routes, light rail, ticketing, cross-honoring policies, and regional Park & Ride alternatives.
Please plan ahead and stay informed. This potential service disruption could affect more than 350,000 daily riders. NJ TRANSIT will provide updates as the situation evolves.
