March 2025

Mayor's Message

As we welcome March, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring and all the exciting community events that lie ahead! Our Borough has been working diligently on several projects, and I want to take a moment to thank all of our dedicated department heads, volunteers, and residents for their continued efforts in making Woodcliff Lake such a wonderful place to live.

This month, we are thrilled to announce that the Park Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, followed by our Annual Springfest Celebration on Saturday, May 17th. We are also looking forward to a variety of other community activities. These events will provide fantastic opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate all that makes Woodcliff Lake so special.

In addition, we are excited to share that preliminary plans have been filed for a mixed-use building on the site of the old, abandoned gas station. Early, very preliminary discussions for the ground floor include plans for an art gallery and a restaurant/café. These plans have been officially submitted to the Land Use Board for review, and we look forward to providing updates as the project progresses.

We continue to focus on improving public safety, recreation, and infrastructure to ensure that our town remains safe, vibrant, and welcoming for all.

We would also like to take a moment to welcome all businesses that have made Woodcliff Lake their home in the past year: Ethan Allen, Aerie, Nic + Zoe, and coming soon, Poke Bowl. We are excited to have these businesses as part of our community and look forward to their contributions to our town’s growth and vibrancy.

I encourage everyone to stay engaged, attend upcoming meetings, and participate in our local events. As always, my door is open, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to spring!

Garbage Collection During Inclement Weather

During ANY snow or ice events, garbage must be placed at the curb. Sanitation crews will not go up driveways during or after a snow/ice event.

Snow Event Reminders

  • Parking: Please do not park on the street during snow events to allow for safe and efficient snow removal.
  • Cleaning Vehicles: After snow plows have cleared the roads, please avoid clearing off your vehicle in the roadway. This can create traffic hazards and delays.
  • Private Snow Contractors: If using private contractors for snow removal, remind them not to push snow across roadways after streets have been plowed. This can create dangerous conditions for other drivers.

Shade Tree Committee

Proper Mulching Matters!

The Shade Tree Committee wants to remind residents that improper mulching can harm or even kill trees. Avoid piling mulch into a cone around the tree trunk—these "mulch volcanoes" trap moisture, leading to rot, disease, and pest problems. Instead, think donuts, not volcanoes! Mulch should be spread 2-4 inches deep in a flat, even layer, leaving space around the trunk to allow for proper air circulation.

✅ Benefits of Proper Mulching:

✔️ Protects trees from lawnmower and trimmer damage

✔️ Prevents weed growth

✔️ Regulates soil temperature

✔️ Improves soil health

✔️ Reduces the need for frequent watering

🌱 Want a Free Tree?

The Borough is offering free street tree plantings for residents in 2025! If you’re interested, submit a Shade Tree Request Form to Borough Hall. A Shade Tree Committee member will contact you to discuss the type and location of the tree before planting. Saplings are typically 5-6 feet tall.

Let’s work together to keep Woodcliff Lake green and thriving! 🌿 🌳
